Jakpa petitions CID to probe Dame over alleged fabrication of evidence

Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, has petitioned the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame for misconduct.
In a petition dated September 23, 2025, and addressed to the Director of CID, Mr Jakpa alleged that Mr Dame attempted to manipulate his testimony in the ambulance procurement trial.
According to him, the former Attorney-General urged him to testify in a manner that would “dishonestly, wickedly and without an iota of conscience implicate Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.”
He further claimed that Mr Dame encouraged him to back his account with a fabricated excuse duty document, calling the act “a crime—fabrication of evidence.”
“I request that Mr Dame be investigated for fabrication of evidence and made to face the full consequences if found culpable,” Mr Jakpa stated.
The high-profile ambulance case, which dominated headlines last year, involved the purchase of 200 ambulances during the tenure of Dr Forson as Deputy Minister of Finance.
Prosecutors argued the procurement process was flawed and caused financial loss to the state. Mr Jakpa, who played a role in facilitating the transaction, was charged alongside Dr Forson. Both denied wrongdoing, describing the charges as politically motivated.
The trial was dogged by controversy after recordings of private exchanges between Mr Dame and Mr Jakpa surfaced, sparking debate over prosecutorial conduct and political interference.
The revelations fuelled criticism of the Attorney-General’s office and intensified calls for accountability in how high-stakes cases are handled.
Mr Jakpa’s latest petition is now expected to reignite scrutiny of the state’s legal strategy and the role of political influence in judicial proceedings.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested ten suspects believed to be members of a criminal syndicate responsible for a string of armed robberies on financial institutions, particularly rural banks, across several regions.
The arrests followed months of investigations, intelligence gathering and surveillance that uncovered a consistent pattern in the robberies.
The police operation, which extended to the Brong Ahafo, Western, Central, Eastern and Ashanti regions, also resulted in the deaths of three suspects who exchanged gunfire with officers in September 2025.
At a press conference on Wednesday, the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), Commissioner of Police Lydia Donkor, disclosed that the suspects were in custody and would be arraigned after ongoing investigations were concluded.
She revealed that weapons retrieved from the gang linked the suspects to past crimes, including the killing of a police officer.
“It is worth noting that one of the AK-47 rifles marked GHGP/ASA/TEPA/TP/B1528 retrieved from this gang was a police service weapon issued to 4A04 G-Corporal Francis Adu Yaw, then at Tepa Police District Headquarters, who was sadly attacked by armed robbers and killed on the Bibiani-Goaso highway on 29th November 2024 while he was returning from an official duty. This is an indication that this same gang committed that heinous crime,” she said.
