Fire destroys Girls’ Hostel at Zuarungu Nursing and Midwifery College

A fire outbreak at the girls’ hostel of the Zuarungu Nursing and Midwifery Training College on Monday, September 29, has left several students grappling with losses.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said in a statement on its official Facebook page that it received a distress call around 12:14 p.m. Two fire tenders—one from Zuarungu and another from Bolgatanga—were quickly dispatched and reached the campus within three minutes.
By the time firefighters arrived, flames had already engulfed several areas of the hostel. The team, however, managed to contain the fire by 1:20 p.m. and completely extinguished it by 2:08 p.m. The GNFS confirmed that five rooms and their contents were completely destroyed, while six others were saved from total loss.
Regional Fire Commander, ACFO II Sagoe, later visited the college to assess the damage. He assured authorities that a thorough investigation would be carried out to establish the cause and that measures would be recommended to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Although the exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, the GNFS urged schools and members of the public to strictly observe fire safety protocols to mitigate risks and protect lives and property.
