‘Nothing should disturb the peace’ — Apaak tells Commonwealth Hall students

Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Abas Apaak has urged current Commonwealth Hall students to preserve peace as preparations begin for the hall’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

Dr. Apaak made the appeal after representing Old Vandals in the Executive and Legislature at the 2026 Vandal Jamboree, held at Bacchus Gardens in Commonwealth Hall on August 1.

The event marked the first time in five years that the annual gathering had returned to the hall following the resolution of a prolonged impasse between the University of Ghana and the fraternity.

Reflecting on the occasion, he said he expressed appreciation to the University of Ghana management for helping restore normalcy while encouraging current residents to safeguard the gains achieved.

“I thanked the University of Ghana management and called on current Vandals [on campus] to be measured and circumspect as we work to consolidate the current peace. Nothing should disturb the peace.”

He stressed that maintaining cordial relations between Commonwealth Hall and the university would be critical as stakeholders prepare to celebrate the hall’s 70th anniversary in 2027.

“It’s in the interest of our fraternity and in the interest of the UG to maintain this positive relationship as we work and plan towards the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of Commonwealth Hall next year.”

Dr. Apaak also highlighted major milestones achieved since the impasse was resolved, including the reopening of the Old Vandals Association’s global headquarters and the lifting of restrictions on seven affected students, six of whom have resumed their academic programmes.

He credited the progress to the collective efforts of the Old Vandals Association, its National Council of Elders, national executives, regional chapters and members serving in the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary.

Beyond delivering remarks, Dr. Apaak took part in traditional hall chants, solidarity gatherings and fraternity songs with fellow Old Vandals, reflecting the enduring Vandal spirit that has long defined the alumni fraternity.

A former National Organiser of the Old Vandals Association, he joined fellow V-mates in celebrating the hall’s traditions and shared identity, underscoring the camaraderie that continues to unite members across generations.

Dr. Apaak described receiving recognition from the Old Vandals Association as the award he cherishes most, saying it reflected his long-standing commitment and service to the fraternity.
