NPP Ashanti region youth organizer aspirant launches bid to revive party spirit

An aspiring Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Centence Baffour, has launched what he describes as a “youth revival agenda” aimed at restoring the passion and patriotism that once defined the party’s base in the region.
Speaking on his vision in a statement, Mr. Baffour emphasized that the Ashanti Region remains the “backbone and heartbeat” of the NPP and warned that the growing disinterest among young supporters threatens the party’s strength.
“Anytime the Ashanti Region rises, the party rises. But today, we face a new and growing challenge, a silent threat to our survival and future strength,” he said.
He noted that many young people in the region were “gradually losing their passion, conviction, and belief in the ideals of the NPP,” adding that “their love, their resolve, and their genuine commitment are declining, and that must concern every true patriot of our tradition.”
Mr. Baffour, who is seeking to lead the NPP youth front in the Ashanti Region, said his goal is to “rekindle the fire of patriotism among young people and make the NPP once again the most attractive and inspiring political movement for the youth.”
He expressed concern about what he called a “troubling trend” in the Greater Kumasi enclave, where the hinterlands have been delivering higher votes than the urban centers, describing it as “a clear indication that our urban youth are drifting away.”
He stressed, “We must act, and we must act now.”
As part of his plans, Mr. Baffour pledged to introduce “practical, innovative, and engaging programs, initiatives, and events” to reconnect young people with the party, revive volunteerism, and strengthen the region’s electoral influence.
The Ashanti Region is historically the NPP’s electoral stronghold, often delivering the party’s largest vote margins.
Analysts say the region’s youth mobilization has been critical to every national victory, making Mr. Baffour’s call for renewed activism central to the party’s future performance.
He stressed, “Together, we will rebuild, reenergize, and restore the Ashanti youth base—and, in doing so, strengthen the very foundation of our great party.”
Unlike in the past, the party has decided to choose its flag bearer before deciding on national and regional officers.
The top-down approach of the party is expected to influence the party’s personnel and strategy heading into the 2028 general election where the NPP will be seeking to return to power after suffering a disastrous loss last year.
