Pharmaceutical Society condemns assault on pharmacy staff at Burma Camp

The Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) has condemned the physical assault of pharmacy personnel and a client by a Ghana Armed Forces officer at Burma Camp in Accra.
In a statement on Thursday, the Society said it was “deeply concerned and outraged” by a viral CCTV video showing Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Mensah Williams attacking a pharmacy staff member and a female client inside e-PRIDE Chemist.
“The Society unequivocally condemns this barbaric, reprehensible, and utterly unacceptable act of violence,” the statement read. “Such conduct not only violates the fundamental human rights and dignity of the victims but also constitutes a grave affront to public trust and the sanctity of healthcare spaces.”
The PSGH said it had visited the pharmacy to verify the incident and assured the affected personnel of its full support.
“We stand firmly with them and will ensure they receive the necessary psychological and professional support,” the statement added.
Describing community pharmacists as “front-line healthcare providers who serve the public diligently under difficult circumstances,” PSGH noted that an attack on any pharmacy professional was “an attack on public health.”
The Society urged the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces to “pursue this matter to its logical conclusion,” stressing the need for transparency and swift justice.
At the same time, PSGH commended the Armed Forces for promptly arresting the suspect, describing it as evidence of “institutional commitment to discipline and professionalism.” It expressed hope that “disciplinary processes, thorough investigation, and prosecution” would be expedited to restore public confidence.
Reaffirming its dedication to pharmacy safety, PSGH called on all stakeholders to “work together to ensure healthcare spaces remain zones of respect, safety, and service to humanity.”
This come after a military officer was captured assaulting a pharmacist in a viral video. He has been arrested and handed over to the police for investigation.
The suspect, identified as Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Mensah Williams of the Ghana Air Force Base, was detained by Military Police on Thursday morning following public outrage over the incident.
In the disturbing footage, the officer, dressed in civilian clothes, stormed a pharmacy at Burma Camp, angrily demanding a refund for an item purchased on his behalf.
He was seen assaulting both a bystanding woman and the pharmacist during the confrontation.
