CEO of Kessben Group, Stephen Kwabena Boateng dead

Renowned Kumasi-based businessman and media entrepreneur, Stephen Kwabena Boateng, popularly known as Kwabena Kesse or Kessben, has died at the age of 68.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Kessben Group of Companies reportedly died after a short illness. Employees of his various companies confirmed his passing on Thursday, August 20, 2026.

According to the statement, Stephen Kwabena Boateng was born on September 12, 1957, and raised at North Suntreso in Kumasi, Kessben rose from humble beginnings to establish a wide ranging business empire with interests in media, education, transportation, hospitality, financial services and other sectors.

His business ventures included Kessben Travel and Tours, Kessben Driving School, Kessben Computer School, Kessben Shipping and Forwarding Limited, Fosua Hotel and Conference Centre, Kessben University College, Kessben Consult and the Kessben Foundation.

He made a significant mark in Ghana’s media industry after establishing Kessben FM Limited, the company behind Kessben FM, Kessben TV and Aseda TV.

The media platforms became particularly influential in the Ashanti Region, further strengthening Kessben’s reputation as a leading private-sector figure in Kumasi.

Kessben began his entrepreneurial journey through trading and other private business activities before expanding his interests into multiple sectors. His businesses subsequently provided employment opportunities for many people and contributed to the growth of private enterprise in the region.

Stephen Kwabena Boateng was also recognised for his philanthropic activities and social interventions, supporting initiatives aimed at improving the lives of people and communities.

His contribution to national development also extended to peacebuilding. Kessben served as a member of Ghana’s National Peace Council from 2004 to 2010.
His passing represents a significant loss to Ghana’s business and media communities, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where his name and business brand have remained prominent for decades.

Kessben leaves behind a considerable legacy in entrepreneurship, media, education and community development.
