Ghana urges immediate halt to deadly fighting in Sudan

The Government of Ghana has called for an immediate and unconditional end to hostilities in Sudan, citing the devastating humanitarian impact of the conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on November 3, 2025, Ghana expressed grave concern over the “atrocious effects of the ongoing armed conflict,” which it said has caused “significant loss of lives and massive displacement of civilians.”
The government noted that the prolonged fighting has left millions destitute and starving, undermining regional security and threatening progress toward a peaceful transition.
“Ghana stands in solidarity with the people of Sudan and reiterates its unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and democratic governance across the African continent,” the statement said.
The Ministry stressed that “there is no military solution to this crisis,” urging all sides to cease hostilities immediately. It called for “an immediate, complete and unconditional halt to all military operations nationwide” and the establishment of “safe corridors for the rapid and unrestricted delivery of life-saving humanitarian aid to all affected regions.”
It further urged “strict adherence to International Humanitarian Law,” ensuring safe passage and protection for civilians, aid workers, and medical personnel.
The statement also appealed to the warring factions to return to negotiations to form “a path toward a civilian-led transitional government.”
Additionally, Ghana called on regional and international actors to end any form of support that fuels the conflict and to comply fully with the United Nations arms embargo on Darfur.
“The Government of Ghana remains committed to supporting all efforts aimed at resolving the conflict and promoting long-term stability in Sudan,” the statement added.
It urged the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) to intensify diplomatic mediation and coordination to help achieve a peaceful resolution to the Sudanese crisis.
