Muntaka assures of improved conditions for security personnel in 2026

Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has assured security personnel of improved working conditions by 2026, citing government plans to address equipment, welfare, and operational challenges.
The assurance came after a joint march by the security agencies at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra on Tuesday, as part of activities marking the Christmas season and highlighting inter-agency cooperation.
Addressing personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and the Ghana Prisons Service, Muntaka said the government was aware of the specific risks and constraints faced by each service and was committed to easing those pressures.
“You’ve seen the number of armoured vehicles the police have received,” he said. “The army, you know, coming here, you’re going to be one of the main focuses, just as the Fire Service will be one of the main focus.”
He added that the president had given assurances about retooling key services. “The president has assured that you are going to have a lot of fire tenders,” Muntaka noted. “The Prisons [Service], we know the risk associated with your work. We are going to be focused.”
Touching on border management and policing, the Interior Minister said, “The Immigration [Service], we know the border control challenges that you’re going through. The police, we know the day-to-day challenges that you’re going through.”
Looking ahead, he expressed optimism about measurable improvements. “By the grace of God, 2026 when we meet here, much, much fewer challenges will be confronting us,” he told the gathering.
The march, which drew personnel from multiple agencies, passed through Kawukudi, Pig Farm, Sankara and Kotobabi, before ending at the El-Wak Stadium, drawing attention from residents along the route.
Acting Defence Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson used the occasion to stress the importance of collaboration among security institutions, warning against siloed operations.
“No single service can stand alone,” he said. “The safety and stability of our dear nation depends on the cooperation, thus the interoperability, the mutual trust among all security agencies.”
Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General William Agyapong, also spoke during the march, appealing for public support for the security services.
“We want to wish the good people of this country a Merry Christmas,” he said. “We should continue supporting and pray for us. We wish them all the best and they should celebrate in moderation.”
The event underscored the government’s messaging on security sector reform, inter-agency cooperation and the link between public support and national stability, especially during the Christmas season.
