King Charles congratulates Ghana at 69

King Charles III has extended Independence Day wishes to President John Dramani Mahama and Ghanaians as the nation marks its 69th anniversary.
The congratulatory message from the British monarch highlighted the enduring relationship between Ghana and the United Kingdom, emphasising shared values and the continuing partnership within the Commonwealth.
“On the occasion of your Independence Day, my wife and I send our warmest congratulations to you and to the people of the Republic of Ghana,” the King said in a message addressed to President Mahama.
He described the relationship between the two countries as one built on mutual respect and long-standing cooperation.
“It is with sincere appreciation that I reflect upon the enduring partnership between our nations, rooted in the shared values and mutual respect that define our Commonwealth,” the King added.
The monarch also recalled recent royal engagement with Ghana, particularly the visit of his brother, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, to Accra in November last year. According to King Charles, the trip reinforced the historic connections between the two countries and demonstrated the strong goodwill that continues to exist between their peoples.
“As my brother, H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh said on his visit to Accra in November, we share an extraordinary history and heritage,” the King noted, while expressing appreciation for the warm reception given during the visit.
King Charles further highlighted the contributions of the Ghanaian community living in the United Kingdom, describing the diaspora as an important bridge strengthening ties between both nations. He pointed out that Ghanaians in Britain continue to contribute significantly in areas including business, education, arts and culture.
“The Commonwealth’s rich diversity and the energy of its younger generations continue to inspire hope and progress,” he said.
The King also stressed the importance of unity among Commonwealth member states amid global challenges.
“In these times of global uncertainty, our collective strength and unity are more vital than ever,” he stated.
Looking ahead, the monarch expressed optimism about continued collaboration between Ghana and the United Kingdom, particularly as leaders prepare for the next Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting scheduled to take place in Antigua and Barbuda later this year.
The meeting will be the first under the leadership of Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Ghana’s former Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
King Charles noted that both countries are already working together on several initiatives, including programmes aimed at strengthening climate resilience in vulnerable communities.
“My wife and I join in extending our very best wishes to you and to all Ghanaians for a peaceful and prosperous year ahead,” he said.
The message comes as Ghana marks its independence under the national theme “Building Prosperity, Inspiring Hope,” reflecting efforts to strengthen economic growth and national unity while maintaining strong international partnerships.
