Police bust suspected land guard ring, seize guns at Abokobi

Police have arrested two suspects, including an alleged notorious land guard, after retrieving firearms and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation at Abokobi.
The operation led to the arrest of Saviour Kojo Ekpe, whom police described as a suspected land guard accused of intimidating residents and possessing illegal weapons in the area.
According to a police statement, the arrest took place on March 5, 2026, after intelligence suggested the suspect had been terrorising residents in Abokobi and nearby communities.
Police said Ekpe was also suspected of renting firearms to criminals for unlawful activities.
“A search conducted in his room led to the retrieval of four pump action guns, 101 AA and BB live cartridges, one Glock Austria pistol, 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and a jack knife,” the statement said.
Investigators believe the weapons may have been circulated among criminal elements operating within the community.
During interrogation, Ekpe admitted the weapons belonged to him but failed to provide a lawful reason for possessing them.
“He claimed that some of the weapons were used for hunting and personal protection,” police noted, adding that the explanation did not justify the possession of the firearms.
Police further indicated that the discovery of the weapons strengthens suspicions that they may have been hired out to individuals involved in criminal activities.
Authorities also arrested another suspect, Emmanuel Abbey, believed to be an accomplice of Ekpe.
Police said Abbey was picked up for allegedly threatening the life of a complainant connected to the case.
“The Police also arrested Emmanuel Abbey, an alleged accomplice, for threatening the life of a complainant,” the statement added.
Investigations are ongoing as police work to determine the full extent of the suspects’ activities and whether other individuals may be linked to the alleged operations.
Police say efforts to clamp down on land guard activities and the illegal circulation of firearms remain a priority as part of broader measures to enhance security in affected communities.
