Dr. Apaak backs teachers to enforce discipline in schools

Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has pledged government support for teachers to enforce discipline and maintain order in schools across the country.
He made the remarks at the 75th anniversary speech and prize-giving day of T. I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School in Kumasi on March 28, 2026, where he addressed key challenges facing the education sector.
Dr. Apaak emphasised that teachers remain central to maintaining discipline in schools and must be empowered to carry out that responsibility effectively.
“You remain the custodians of discipline within our schools,” he stated, urging educators to take firm but fair action in dealing with misconduct.
He encouraged school authorities to balance enforcement with mentorship, stressing that discipline must be applied consistently.
“I encourage you to enforce standards firmly, fairly, and consistently, while also guiding and mentoring students with care and professionalism,” he said.
The Deputy Minister assured teachers that the government stands firmly behind them in addressing rising cases of indiscipline.
“Let me assure you that you have the fullest support of the Minister of Education to tackle this menace,” he added, noting that collaboration with stakeholders will be key to restoring order.
He warned that without discipline, the broader objectives of education cannot be achieved.
“No meaningful learning can take place in an environment where order, respect, and responsibility are absent,” he stressed.
Dr. Apaak also called on students to take responsibility for their actions, reminding them that character is as important as academic success.
He urged them to reject misconduct and embrace values that will shape their future positively.
Beyond discipline, he highlighted ongoing government efforts to improve education through investments in infrastructure, curriculum reforms, and teacher development.
He noted that these interventions are designed to support teachers and enhance learning outcomes.
Dr. Apaak maintained that strengthening discipline in schools will ultimately help produce responsible, capable citizens who can contribute meaningfully to national development.
