NHIA Deputy CEO lauds Barry Luguzure for sharing his story

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Anatu Seidu Bogobiri, has commended former drug addict Barry Luguzure for openly sharing his journey from addiction to recovery.
Madam Bogobiri praised Barry’s courage, describing his decision to publicly tell his story as an act of leadership that could inspire many young people facing similar challenges.
In a message addressed to Barry, she said his transformation from struggle to purpose was deeply inspiring and demonstrated the power of determination and resilience.
“Barry, I salute you! Your journey from struggle to purpose is deeply inspiring,” she stated.
She noted that overcoming drug addiction requires immense courage and said Barry’s willingness to share his experience to help others was both rare and commendable.
“The courage it took to overcome this horrible addiction, and sharing your story to help others is rare,” she said.
Madam Bogobiri also extended appreciation to Barry’s family for supporting his decision to make his experience public, saying many people in similar situations might have chosen to keep such struggles hidden.
“And thanks to your family too, for allowing you to share your story. You could have hidden this,” she added.
According to her, Barry’s testimony serves as a beacon of hope for young people battling substance abuse and those seeking a second chance in life.
“Your story is a story of hope for so many young people. Your impact is deeper than you know. I am proud of you Barry. No turning back! Keep leading,” she said.
Her remarks come after she addressed students during the Kampus Konnect programme in the Upper East Region, where she called on young people to reject drug abuse and embrace discipline, healthy living and responsible decision-making.
At the event, Madam Bogobiri warned that addiction often begins with seemingly harmless choices influenced by peer pressure and the desire to fit in. She urged students to remain focused on their goals and avoid activities that could undermine their future prospects.
She also encouraged young people facing emotional and psychological challenges to seek support rather than turn to drugs, stressing that there is no shame in asking for help.
Madam Bogobiri maintained that Ghana’s development depends on a generation of disciplined, healthy and responsible youth, and said stories such as Barry’s demonstrate that recovery is possible and that lives can be transformed through determination, support and positive choices.
