Losses incurred last year won’t be repeated this year – Dr. Asiama

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, has assured the public that no loss will be recorded going forward.
Speaking at the Ghana-UK investment summit 2026, Dr. Asiama noted that issues he met in office have been tackled tactically, and there is no room for losses moving forward.
“Many of the issues that we came to meet, we had already analyzed, and we had developed solutions.
“Where we are now, we can tackle the real sector problems. We’ve brought about stability, and most of the losses that we incurred last year will not be repeated this year,” he added
Dr. Asiama stressed that the tough monetary policy measures adopted were necessary to correct past policy missteps.
“You remember we had to tighten monetary policy quickly, because there were some policy missteps the year before, and so inflation was too high. The exchange rate was still very volatile when we came in, so much liquidity had been injected since 2022,” he noted.
“We spent last year draining that excess blood. No wonder you saw our financials, how much it
cost us, but it was a necessary cost, you know, we call it a reset cost,” he added.
The Ghana-UK Investment Summit is designed to restore investor confidence and forge strategic economic partnerships between both nations. It connects global institutional investors directly with Ghanaian policymakers to unlock economic potential and create jobs.
