Interior Ministry orders immediate shutdown of Kantanka Security Services

The Ministry of the Interior has ordered Kantanka Security Services Limited to immediately cease operations over alleged firearms and security uniform violations.
The directive, announced in a statement signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, follows reports that personnel of the company allegedly used unprescribed uniforms and possessed and used firearms and ammunition while providing private security services at Kwabenya in Accra on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
The Ministry said the company’s Private Security Organisation licence had been suspended with immediate effect pending investigations into the matter.
The action comes after some personnel linked to the company were reportedly arrested following a shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament Sarah Adwoa Safo.
The former legislator is receiving medical treatment after unidentified gunmen allegedly opened fire on her vehicle near the residence of her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, amid tensions surrounding the management of the Kristo Asafo Mission and related family matters.
Police have since arrested six suspects, including Israel Kwadwo Safo, also known as Akofena, as investigations continue.
According to the Interior Ministry, preliminary investigations indicate possible breaches of the Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (L.I. 1571), which govern the operations of private security organisations in Ghana.
It stated that “the usage of unprescribed uniforms, unauthorised possession and use of firearms and ammunition as well as security accoutrements by private security personnel, constitutes a serious breach with significant implications for public safety and security.”
Consequently, the Ministry directed the company “to immediately cease all operations forthwith pending the conclusion of investigations into the matter.”
The statement also advised all institutions and organisations to suspend any business dealings with Kantanka Security Services Limited until further notice.
“All institutions are advised to refrain from conducting business with Kantanka Security Services Limited pending the conclusion of investigations and further directives from the Ministry,” it said.
The Ministry further instructed the company to cooperate fully with the Ghana Police Service by providing all necessary information to facilitate a thorough investigation.
“The public is assured that the suspension is an administrative measure intended to safeguard public safety and security while investigations are ongoing,” the statement said.
It added that appropriate action would be taken after investigations are completed in accordance with the laws and regulations governing private security operations in the country.
