NPP National Chairman Race: John Boadu fires up newly elected constituency executives 

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary John Boadu has intensified his campaign for National Chairman, rallying newly elected constituency executives in the Central Region.

Speaking at a thanksgiving meeting attended by constituency executives, Boadu reiterated his intention to contest the party’s top leadership position when nominations are opened, expressing confidence in securing the mandate of delegates.

“Because this is a thanksgiving meeting, I won’t speak for long. If God helps the General Secretary and I and the nominations for the National Officers of the party are opened, I will pick a form to contest for National Chairman of our great party,” he told the enthusiastic gathering.

The declaration sparked loud cheers from the newly elected constituency executives, who repeatedly responded with chants and words of encouragement as the National Chairman hopeful outlined his ambitions. The executives form part of the electorate that will choose the party’s next national officers.

Boadu was accompanied by several senior party figures, including NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, who is seeking re-election to his current position.

Referring to Kodua’s presence, Boadu said, “The General Secretary has decided to support my bid so when I become Chairman he will stand behind me.”

In a light-hearted moment that drew laughter from the audience, he added, “Just like Bawumia told Mahama he owed us [Ghanaians], you also need to know you owe me,” before continuing his address.

Boadu is one of the party’s most experienced national officers, having held executive positions at every level of the NPP structure, from polling station to the national leadership.

His national leadership portfolio includes serving as General Secretary from 2018 to 2022 after acting in the role between 2015 and 2018.

He also served as National Organizer, Deputy National Communications Director, National Youth Organizer, National Youth Treasurer, and National Finance Officer.

His appearance in the Central Region is expected to bolster his campaign as the race for the NPP’s national executive positions gradually gathers momentum ahead of the party’s internal elections on 19th September, 2026.
