We’ve no outstanding per diem obligations to Black Queens – Ministry of Sports & Recreation

The Ministry of Youth and Sports has denied claims that the government has outstanding per diem obligations to Ghana’s Black Queens during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying matches against Egypt.

In a statement dated 12 August 2026, and signed by Bagbara Tanko, Public Relations and Communications at the Ministry said all per diem has been paid.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Government does not owe the Black Queens any outstanding per diem,” the Ministry stated.

According to the Ministry, players and eligible officials received their per diems in advance on July 29, 2026, covering the period from July 26 to August 7, 2026. The payments covered the team’s participation in the group stage and the relevant period thereafter, with recipients acknowledging the payments through signed allowance sheets.

Following the team’s quarter-final exit and its continued stay in Morocco for the FIFA Women’s World Cup play-in qualification pathway, the government made an additional per diem payment on August 11, 2026. The payment covered the period from August 8 to August 14, 2026.

The Black Queens are currently preparing for a FIFA Women’s World Cup qualification play-off against Côte d’Ivoire, with the Ministry describing qualification for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027 as an immediate national priority.

The match kicks off at 17:00 GMT (5:00 PM local time) at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca, Morocco.
