GAUA, TUSAAG demand 48 hours to decide on strike after meeting with Education Minister

Members of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) have requested 48 hours to consult their members on whether to suspend or continue their ongoing industrial action.
The decision follows a meeting between the leadership of the two unions, Vice-Chancellors’ Ghana, and the Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, aimed at resolving the dispute.
During the meeting, the Minister appealed to the unions to give the government one month to address their concerns.
“I want you to give me one month to resolve the issues, and I want you to furnish me with the data to help the resolution,” Mr. Iddrisu said.
He added: “I want us to have industrial harmony on all university campuses.”
Following the discussions, the unions agreed to return to their members for consultation before deciding on the next step.
One of the union representatives said: “We are going to meet our constituents, and within 48 hours, we will see whether we will call off the strike or not.”
Another representative described the meeting with the Minister as positive and expressed hope that the unions would communicate their decision within the agreed period.
“We have had positive discussions with the Minister, and hopefully, within 48 hours, we will communicate our decision to the Minister,” the representative said.
The outcome of the consultations will determine whether GAUA and TUSAAG suspend their industrial action or maintain the strike.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellors’ Ghana has appealed to the two unions to call off the strike to allow academic and administrative activities to resume fully on university campuses.
The unions are expected to announce their decision after completing consultations with their members.
Tis came after the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and the Technical Universities Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) declared a nationwide strike over unresolved pay disparities, market premium allowances, and unilateral adjustments to interim allowance implementation dates by the Ministry of Finance.
