Ghana’s defender Abdul Mumin joins Girona on free transfer

Ghana defender Abdul Mumin has completed a move to Spanish La Liga side Girona FC on a free transfer ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 28-year-old centre-back has signed a three-year contract with the club, keeping him at Girona until June 2029.
Mumin is expected to strengthen Girona’s defence with his physical presence, aerial ability and experience in Spanish football.
Born in Accra on June 6, 1998, the 1.88-metre defender began his career at Ghana’s Right to Dream Academy before moving to Europe, where he featured for Danish club FC Nordsjaelland and Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes.
He moved to Spain in 2022 to join Rayo Vallecano, where he made more than 60 official appearances and gained valuable La Liga experience.
His familiarity with Spanish football is expected to help him settle quickly at Girona as he competes for a regular place in the starting lineup.
Mumin made his senior debut for Ghana in June 2024 and has since established himself within the Black Stars setup.
His inclusion in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup further highlights his growing importance to the national team.
The move to Girona marks another significant step in Mumin’s European career as he looks to make his mark at another La Liga club.
