Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel dies after collision with Andorra goalkeeper

Tributes have poured in from across the football world following the death of CD Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel, who passed away on Tuesday after suffering serious injuries during a match against FC Andorra.
The 30-year-old died after his condition deteriorated overnight following a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during Monday’s Spanish second-division fixture.
Tenerife confirmed his death in an emotional statement, saying: “No words can ease the pain, nothing can lessen this great feeling of sadness. Our thoughts are with the family, his close friends and Tenerife fans, who today are grieving over this terrible news.”
Former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, majority shareholder of FC Andorra, expressed his sorrow over the death.
“I am so sorry with all my soul. Rest in peace, Jesus,” he wrote on social media.
FC Andorra also issued a statement expressing its “most sincere condolences” to De Miguel’s family, team-mates, friends and CD Tenerife.
Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid were among the Spanish clubs that sent messages of sympathy, while La Liga president Javier Tebas described the loss as irreparable.
“Today, we all share the terrible pain of an irreparable loss. My deepest condolences to his family, loved ones, team-mates and the whole club,” he said.
France and Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe also paid tribute, writing, “Much sadness, there are no words.”
Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi expressed similar sentiments, saying, “There are no words. My condolences and lots of strength to all his family and friends.”
De Miguel suffered the fatal injuries during Tenerife’s 2-2 match against Andorra on Monday after a collision with goalkeeper Jesus Owono, who was sent off following the challenge.
The forward received emergency treatment on the pitch and was taken to hospital, where he was admitted to intensive care. His club later announced that his condition had worsened before confirming his death on Tuesday morning.
Following the tragedy, the Spanish football federation postponed Tuesday’s scheduled Copa del Rey fixtures, including two men’s first-round matches and a women’s cup fixture.
De Miguel joined Tenerife from Castellon in the summer of 2025. His death has prompted widespread mourning among clubs, players and supporters across Spanish football.
