Fire guts house near Manhyia palace in Kumasi

A fire has gutted a house at Manhyia in the Kumasi Metropolis, just metres away from the Manhyia Palace, causing panic among residents and bystanders in the area.
The fire reportedly started at about 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, with thick smoke and flames attracting the attention of people within the community.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were quickly deployed to the scene and began efforts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
Videos from the scene showed firefighters battling the flames as residents and other members of the public gathered around the affected building.
The close proximity of the incident to the Manhyia Palace heightened concern among residents, although there were no immediate reports of damage to the Palace.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage to the affected property were not immediately known.
Fire officers were expected to assess the situation and determine the circumstances that led to the outbreak.
Authorities are yet to confirm whether there were any casualties or injuries in the incident.
