GES assures newly promoted teachers of automatic salary adjustments

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has assured newly promoted teachers that their salaries will automatically be adjusted to reflect their new ranks, urging them to disregard requests to submit documents for the processing of salary adjustments.

The assurance follows concerns raised by some newly promoted teachers who said they had been directed to submit application letters, promotion letters and other documents to facilitate the adjustment of their salaries.

In a statement dated August 22, 2026, the GES said teachers promoted to new ranks were normally placed automatically on the appropriate salary scale corresponding to their new positions.

“Teachers who are promoted to new ranks are usually placed automatically on the appropriate salary scale to reflect the new ranks. This existing practice has not changed,” the statement said.

The Service, therefore, advised teachers not to submit any documents or application letters for salary adjustments.

“Teachers are, therefore, to ignore the request to submit any documents for salary adjustments,” the GES stated.

The clarification was issued by the Public Relations Unit of the GES in response to reports that some regions and districts were allegedly requesting newly promoted teachers to provide documents before their salaries could be adjusted.

The GES said management was engaging the few regions and districts allegedly making such requests and called on teachers to remain calm while the matter was being addressed.

“Management calls for calm among teachers as it engages the few regions and districts that are allegedly requesting such documents,” the statement added.

The GES urged newly promoted teachers to continue with their duties without anxiety over their salary adjustments, stressing that the existing automatic placement system for promoted teachers remains unchanged.
