‎SYPALA: AI is determining the future – Selorm Branttie

‎Ghanaian ICT business strategist and Vice President and Director of Strategy, Mr. Selorm Branttie, has urged businesses and individuals to embrace artificial intelligence (AI), saying the technology will play a decisive role in shaping the future.

‎Speaking at the Students and Young Professionals African Liberty Academy (SYPALA) on Wednesday, August 26, where he led a conversation on “Africa’s Digital Transformation: Artificial Intelligence, Financial Technology and Digital Public Infrastructure: What Do These Mean for the Unemployed, Hungry and the Informal Worker?”

SYPALA, which stands for the Students and Young Professionals African Liberty Academy, is an annual educational program run by the IMANI Center for Policy and Education.

Mr. Branttie said, AI and other digital tools must be used to create real economic opportunities, particularly for people operating in Ghana’s informal sector.

‎“AI is going to determine the future. AI is going to lead us into a future that none of us have ever understood,” he said.
‎
‎Mr. Branttie noted that technological advancement had transformed how people work, pointing to the shift from typewriters to Microsoft Word and the growing use of digital tools for data analysis, collection and business intelligence.
‎
‎He questioned why such technologies were not being used more extensively to help informal businesses improve their earnings.
‎
‎“Why aren’t we using those tools to help 80% of those who are making money in this country make better money?” he asked.
‎
‎According to him, AI and other digital technologies could help businesses identify new opportunities, understand markets, and reduce costs, particularly for informal-sector operators who may not have the time or resources to acquire new skills.
