Women in leadership must create opportunities for the next generation – Dr. Apaak

Deputy Minister for Education Dr. Clement Abas Apaak has urged Ghanaian women in leadership to continue creating opportunities for younger women and girls to follow in their footsteps.
According to Dr. Apaak, leadership should not be measured solely by the positions people occupy but by the impact they make in society.
“The women being recognised today have shown us that leadership is not simply about occupying a position. Leadership is about service, commitment and impact,” he said.
He made the remarks at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) Women’s Awards, where distinguished Ghanaian women were honoured for their leadership and contributions to national development.
Dr. Apaak said the women being celebrated had demonstrated courage, resilience, knowledge and leadership across sectors including education, academia, science, business, public service, politics and the arts.
He congratulated the award recipients and urged them to use their achievements to inspire younger generations.
“I hope your achievements will inspire other women, and, importantly, young girls across the country, to believe in themselves and pursue their dreams,” he said.
Dr. Apaak said young girls should be able to look at successful women and see leadership and professional success as possibilities for their own futures.
“A young girl sitting in a classroom today should be able to look at the women being celebrated here and know that she too can become a leader, a scientist, an academic, a businesswoman, a public servant, or anything else she aspires to be,” he said.
He commended GAAS for creating a platform that gives visibility to women’s achievements and provides role models for the next generation.
The awards were held under the theme, “Breaking Barriers and Building Nations: Celebrating Women in Outstanding Leadership in Ghana.”
Dr. Apaak represented the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, at the ceremony.
