Dr. Apaak calls for stronger support for girls in STEM and leadership

Deputy Minister for Education Dr. Clement Abas Apaak has called for stronger support for girls to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), research, innovation and leadership.
He said Ghana could not achieve its development aspirations without the full participation of women and girls.
“We must also encourage more girls to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, as well as research, innovation and leadership. Ghana needs the contribution of all its citizens if we are to build the country we desire,” Dr Apaak said.
He made the call at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS) Women’s Awards, which recognised Ghanaian women who have distinguished themselves through leadership and service.
Dr. Apaak said barriers continue to limit many women and girls from reaching their full potential, requiring concerted efforts from government, academia, industry, civil society and communities.
“Breaking these barriers requires a collective effort. It requires us to create opportunities, provide the right support, and ensure that women and girls have access to quality education, skills and leadership opportunities,” he said.
He said the Ministry of Education remains committed to an education system that provides equal opportunities for girls and boys while helping every child discover and develop their talents.
The Deputy Minister also congratulated the award recipients and urged them to continue inspiring young women to pursue leadership and contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development.
He commended GAAS for recognising women whose work and leadership are making a difference in the country.
The GAAS Women’s Awards were held under the theme, “Breaking Barriers and Building Nations: Celebrating Women in Outstanding Leadership in Ghana.”
Dr. Apaak represented Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu at the ceremony and highlighted the role of education in empowering women and girls.
