NPP elects national leadership today ahead of 2028 elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) will elect its national leadership today as thousands of delegates converge at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi for the party’s National Delegates Congress.
A total of 7,163 delegates are expected to cast their ballots in the elections, which are part of the NPP’s preparations for the 2028 general elections.
Proceedings are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m. with consideration of proposed constitutional amendments. Voting for national officers is expected to commence at noon.
Nine executive positions are up for election, including National Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser, National Treasurer and National Communications Director.
Voting will take place across 31 polling stations, with the Electoral Commission responsible for conducting the elections and verifying delegates.
According to the NOEC, delegates must appear on the voters’ register and provide a Voter ID card, Ghana Card or NPP party card before voting.
“Constitutional Amendments will commence at exactly 9:00 a.m.,” the NOEC notice stated, adding that the “Election of National Officers is expected to commence at 12:00 p.m.”
The Ashanti Region has the largest delegation with 1,122 delegates, while Greater Accra and Eastern have 773 and 732 respectively. Savannah has 184 delegates, the smallest regional delegation.
The congress will also consider proposed amendments to portions of the NPP’s constitution.
