Between 3,000 and 4,000 police officers have been deployed to Kumasi to provide security and manage traffic during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Conference and national elections.
The deployment covers the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the main venue for the elections, as well as hostels where delegates and other guests are staying.
NPP Organisation Committee Chairperson, Anthony Abayifaa Karbo, said the security arrangements were aimed at ensuring the conference proceeds smoothly.
He commended the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and the Ashanti Regional Police Command for their cooperation and support ahead of the event.
“The IGP has been fantastic so far; his regional command has been cooperative with us, and they have worked hard to deploy about 3,000 to 4,000 police force to help us with security arrangements and traffic within the hostels and also the stadium,” he said in an interview with Citi News.
Mr Karbo said preparations for the conference were far advanced, with delegates already arriving in Kumasi and settling into their designated hostels.
“We’re very much ready for tomorrow; you come around, you see the police and arrangements so far. I’m sure we’re ready; delegates are arriving at their hostels,” he said.
He added that public address systems were being installed at the stadium, while security personnel had already been deployed around the venue.
Mr Karbo also expressed confidence in the conduct of the various aspirants and delegates, noting that the contestants had been cooperative throughout the electoral process.
He urged delegates to conduct themselves responsibly to ensure the conference is held peacefully and successfully.
The NPP National Delegates Conference and national elections are scheduled for Saturday, October 3, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
