You’ll be part of the 2028 campaign – Bawumia tells defeated NPP candidates

Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has assured candidates who lost the party’s national executive elections that they still have important roles to play in the 2028 campaign.
Dr Bawumia made the remarks during the NPP National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, 2026, where new national executives were elected to lead the party towards the 2028 general elections.
Addressing the defeated at the National delegates conference, Dr Bawumia said the internal contest should not become a source of division, stressing that the party would need the contribution of every member as it prepares for the next election.
“To those who win, the first hug and call you make should be to your fellow aspirants. And to those who do not win, I want to firmly assure all of you that this party still needs you and will still need you.”
He added that the outcome of the elections should mark the beginning of renewed cooperation among the various candidates rather than the end of their involvement in the party’s activities.
“There is work for all of us to do,” Dr Bawumia said, urging the candidates to accept the results in good faith.
He also called on the successful candidates to reach out to their opponents and work with them in the interest of the NPP.
According to him, the elections were an internal exercise to select leaders who would help advance the broader objectives of the party.
“This is just an internal contest to select a few from well-qualified aspirants to serve our party’s collective and ultimate objective of winning back the trust of the people,” he stated.
Dr Bawumia further urged all aspirants and their supporters to maintain peace following the elections and ensure that the competition did not create lasting divisions within the party.
He therefore urged the party must now turn its attention to preparations for the 2028 general elections, with members working together to strengthen the NPP’s structures and campaign.
