15,000 aspirants contest NDC constituency executive elections

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is holding constituency executive elections this weekend, with about 15,000 aspirants expected to compete for positions across 276 constituencies as the governing party reorganizes its structures ahead of the 2028 general election.
The polls, scheduled for Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, will produce executives to manage the party’s affairs and coordinate political activities at the constituency level.
NDC Deputy Director of Elections Mahdi Jibril disclosed the details in an interview with the Daily Graphic.
He said no elections would be held in Juabeso in the Western North Region and Banda in the Bono East Region because the candidates in those constituencies were going unopposed.
Ketu South in the Volta Region held its election on Friday, October 23, after the national party approved a change to prevent a clash with other activities.
The Electoral Commission, working with the party’s election committees, is responsible for conducting the polls, while the Ghana Police Service is tasked with providing security.
The constituency elections are the first major stage in the party’s current sequence of internal executive elections.
Regional executive elections are scheduled for November 14 and 15, following the Regional Youth and Women Conference on November 13.
The process will continue with the National Youth and Women Conference on December 12, before the National Congress on December 19, when the party will elect its national executive officers.
The timetable also provides for nominations, filing, vetting and appeals for the regional and national executive contests.
Through the exercise, the NDC aims to renew its leadership structures from the grassroots to the national level as it prepares for the next general election in 2028.
