Kumasi: Three Nigerians arrested as police bust bank robbery syndicate; fourth suspect on the run

The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Nigerians over their alleged involvement in a robbery syndicate targeting bank customers in Kumasi and its environs, while a fourth suspect remains on the run.
The suspects have been identified as Aboy Promise, 30, Favour Uwalaka, 45, and Kingsley, alias KC, 35. The outstanding suspect is Chinedu, alias Alhaji.
According to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate monitored banking premises, identified customers who withdrew substantial sums of money and followed them before attacking and robbing them.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that the syndicate monitored banking premises, identified customers who withdrew substantial sums of money and trailed them before attacking and robbing them,” the police statement said.
The suspects were also allegedly involved in breaking into unattended vehicles belonging to bank customers using a master key to steal cash kept inside.
The police said Aboy Promise and Favour Uwalaka were arrested at a hotel in Moshie Zongo at about 11:30 p.m. on October 31, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation by an Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Special Team.
The team comprised personnel from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
A search of the suspects’ rooms led to the recovery of GH¢1,600, assorted mobile phones, a Royal motorbike and a master key allegedly used in the vehicle break-ins.
During interrogation, the two suspects reportedly admitted their involvement in the robberies and mentioned Chinedu and Kingsley as alleged accomplices.
The police subsequently arrested Kingsley at another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, after the suspects led investigators to the location.
The Command said Chinedu remained at large and appealed to the public to assist in locating him.
“The remaining accomplice, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, is currently on the run,” the statement said.
It added: “Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to report to the nearest police station or contact the Police through emergency numbers 191, 112 or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.”
The three arrested suspects have since been handed over to the Ashanti Regional Police Command and are assisting with investigations.
The police also disclosed that the suspects had admitted to robbing a victim of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, 2026, after the victim withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
They reportedly admitted to similar robberies at the Atonsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations within Kumasi and its environs.
“The Command cautions bank customers to remain vigilant, be alert to suspicious persons around banking premises and avoid leaving cash or other valuables unattended in vehicles,” the statement said.
