Opong-Fosu pledges grassroots-driven NDC, vows to protect Mahama’s legacy

Hon. Dr. Akwasi Opong-Fosu, an aspiring National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to strengthen the party’s grassroots structures, promote unity and protect the legacy of President John Dramani Mahama as he seeks to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
His commitment forms part of his “Consolidating the Gains” campaign, which is expected to take him to the Oti Region from Wednesday, November 4, to Thursday, November 5, 2026.
A press release issued and signed by Hon. Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, convenor of the AOF4C campaign team on November 3, 2026, said the campaign would focus on strengthening the NDC from the grassroots while promoting party unity and effective organisation.
The statement described Dr. Opong-Fosu as a founding member of the NDC with decades of political and public service experience.
It said he remained committed to protecting the legacy of President John Dramani Mahama, consolidating the gains of his administration and building a stronger, more united party capable of retaining political power in 2028 and beyond.
The aspiring National Chairman’s campaign is anchored on his 3Vs agenda Votes, voice and viability which seeks to promote grassroots inclusivity, effective party organisation and the empowerment of members at every level.
As part of the campaign, Dr. Opong-Fosu is expected to engage regional, constituency and branch executives, party elders, cadres, youth and women organisers, as well as other key stakeholders in the Oti Region.
The engagements are intended to provide an opportunity for him to listen to members’ concerns and share his vision for the party.
The campaign team said the initiative was aimed at strengthening party structures and ensuring that members played an active role in the NDC’s organisation and political activities.
“The two-day tour forms part of his commitment to strengthening the NDC from the grassroots, promoting party unity and positioning the party to retain political power in 2028 and beyond,” the press release stated.
The statement further indicated that the campaign team was looking forward to meaningful engagements with party members across the region.
“The campaign team looks forward to meaningful and productive engagements with the hardworking members of the NDC across the Oti Region,” it added.
Dr. Opong-Fosu is seeking the National Chairmanship position under the slogan “Consolidating the Gains,” with Votes, Voice and Viability forming the central pillars of his campaign.
