Opong-Fosu to begin NDC chairmanship campaign in Volta Region on November 2

Hon. Dr. Akwasi Opong-Fosu, an aspiring National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), will begin his nationwide campaign tour in the Volta Region on Monday, November 2, 2026, as he seeks to build party unity and strengthen its grassroots structures ahead of the 2028 elections.
In a press release issued on October 29, the campaign team said the decision to begin the tour in the Volta Region reflects the region’s historical contributions to the party’s growth and electoral successes.
The tour is expected to bring Dr. Opong-Fosu into contact with regional and constituency executives, delegates, branch executives, party elders, cadres, former and serving Members of Parliament, government appointees and other key stakeholders.
According to the campaign team, the engagements will provide an opportunity to listen to party members’ concerns and communicate his vision of consolidating the NDC’s gains while protecting the achievements and legacy of President John Dramani Mahama.
The team said the campaign would be guided by the principles of “Votes, Voice and Viability,” which seek to ensure that grassroots members are recognised, heard and economically empowered.
“The visit is intended to engage party stakeholders, listen to their concerns and share Dr. Opong-Fosu’s vision of CONSOLIDATING THE GAINS,” the statement said.
Dr. Opong-Fosu is being presented by his campaign team as a candidate with extensive experience in party organisation and public administration. He is a founding member of the NDC and has served as a Member of Parliament, Minister of State and public administrator.
The campaign team argues that his experience and knowledge of the party’s structures position him to lead efforts towards greater unity and inclusiveness.
The team further expressed confidence that his leadership could help the NDC consolidate its political gains and retain power in 2028 and beyond.
The Volta Region tour marks the beginning of his nationwide campaign activities as he seeks support for the party’s national chairmanship position.
“His proven experience, institutional knowledge and commitment to party unity make him the obvious choice to lead the NDC in consolidating its gains, safeguarding its political future and securing victory in 2028 and beyond,” the statement said.
The press release was issued by Hon. Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, Convenor of the AOF4C Campaign Team.
