Ghana AIDS Commission to distribute ultra-thin condoms from November 6

The Ghana AIDS Commission is set to begin distributing a new range of ultra-thin condoms from Friday, November 6, following complaints from users about the comfort and suitability of existing products.
The new condoms are expected to offer improved comfort, elasticity, durability and lubrication, with different sizes designed to meet the needs of Ghanaian men.
Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Dr Kharmacelle Prosper Akanbong, said the new range was developed after the Commission considered concerns raised by users during previous assessments.
Speaking on Joy News on Thursday, November 5, he explained that the new products were designed to improve user satisfaction while maintaining the required standards of quality and effectiveness.
“These condoms will be ultra-thin, with good user acceptability, comparable to other commercial ultra-thin condoms in the market.
We took into consideration user complaints in our previous assessment, and the new ones that are coming would satisfy most of the user complaints,” he said.
Dr Akanbong further indicated that improvements in elasticity, durability and lubrication were intended to enhance users’ experience and encourage greater acceptance of the products.
He disclosed that the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) was expected to approve the first batch before the Commission begins distributing them to its stakeholders and other condom distribution centres.
According to him, the condoms could be available for public use from Friday, November 6, or Monday, November 9, subject to the FDA’s approval.
