Police crackdown in Asokwa, five prostitutes, seven others arrested

A police operation targeting criminal hideouts in the Asokwa Municipality has led to the arrest of twelve individuals. It includes five Nigerian women suspected of engaging in sex work.

The swoop, conducted by officers from the Asokwa District Police Command on Tuesday, July 30, between 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm, focused on areas believed to be hubs for illicit activity, particularly in and around Sokoban Wood Village and Asago.

According to a police briefing, the five women—identified as Empress David, 22; Sonia Isaac, 24; Loveth Michael, 18; Success Moses, 21; and Victor Alice, 23—reportedly admitted during initial interrogations that they had resorted to prostitution as a means of survival.

Seven male suspects were also picked up from ghettos the police suspect to be drug dens. The men have been named as Jacob Amaliba, 30; Usif Awuro, 39; Adu Kofi, 22; Kwame Atobiga, 39; Isaac Boamah, 27; Emmanuel Boakye, 29; and Pekazine Puakan, 28.

Although no weapons or drugs were recovered during the arrests, the police say the suspects are currently in custody as further investigations continue. All 12 individuals are expected to be screened and profiled in the coming days.

The operation, part of a broader crime prevention strategy by the Asokwa District Police, is aimed at clamping down on potential threats before they escalate.
