CID uncovers shocking details in murder of immigration officer; suspect in custody

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has revealed grim details surrounding the suspected murder of a Ghana Immigration Service officer. The charred body of the officer, identified as Stephen King Amoah, was discovered near the GBC Satellite enclave on July 9, 2025.
The main suspect, Bright Aweh, has been charged with murder and remains in police custody as detectives delve deeper into the case.
At a press conference in Accra, CID Director-General COP Lydia Yaako Donkor recounted the timeline of events leading up to the tragedy. According to police, Amoah left his Ashongman Estate residence on July 3 after receiving images of large sums of cash from the suspect, who had reportedly contacted him over a debt repayment arrangement. That night marked the last time he was seen alive.
After family members reported him missing the next day, investigators tracked and arrested Aweh on July 6. During questioning, he admitted to meeting Amoah and handing over GH¢500,000, of which GH¢200,000 was supposedly for settling debts. However, inconsistencies in his statements, alongside questions about the origin of the money, raised red flags.
The case took a grim turn when burnt human remains were found in a storm drain opposite Comet Estate. Relatives later identified the body as that of the missing officer. A series of forensic discoveries in and around Aweh’s residence—including blood stains, freshly painted walls, and a bloodied fufu pestle concealed in a nearby bush—deepened suspicions.
Officers also seized Aweh’s vehicle, which bore visible traces of blood. DNA tests using samples from the deceased’s family are underway to support profiling and confirm the identity of the remains.
Originally arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, Aweh has since been formally charged with murder and remanded by the Adabraka District Court. He is expected to reappear on August 8, 2025.
COP Yaako disclosed that an operation has been launched to identify potential accomplices. She assured the public that the police are determined to bring all involved parties to justice.
“This investigation is far from over. We are pursuing every lead to ensure the full truth comes to light and justice is served,” she emphasized.
