Mahama embarks on official visits to Japan and Singapore

President John Dramani Mahama has left Accra for official visits to Japan and Singapore.

This visit forms part of efforts made to deepen bilateral relations, expand trade and investment opportunities, and strengthen development cooperation between Ghana and the two Asian nations.

According to a statement from the Presidency Communications Directorate, the visit will span two countries, beginning in Japan, where President Mahama will participate in the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX). He is scheduled to deliver a presentation at a plenary session on the theme: “The Economy: Promoting Trade and Investment.”

While in Japan, the President will also deliver an address at a Ghana Presidential Investment Forum to highlight Ghana’s investment opportunities and the government’s Resetting Ghana agenda. He will further engage in a series of bilateral meetings with key Japanese stakeholders, including the President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), senior representatives of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO), and Japan’s Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba. These discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, infrastructure, and technical partnerships.

From Japan, President Mahama will continue to Singapore for a three-day state visit. His itinerary includes a courtesy call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, a meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, participation in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum, and an address at an investment forum where he will present Ghana’s reform and investment priorities to Singapore-based investors.

The statement noted that the visits aim to attract investment, broaden market access for Ghanaian goods and services, mobilise technical and development cooperation, and strengthen partnerships in technology, infrastructure, finance, and human capital development.

President Mahama is accompanied by a delegation of government officials and stakeholders. They departed Accra on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
