Donations for victims of helicopter crash children hit US$20,000

A Presidency update confirms rising support for victims’ children.

The Presidency has announced that total donations to the 6 August 2025 Tragedy Children Support Fund now stand at GHS6,583,600.00 and US$20,000.00.

This follows contributions received between September 1 and September 11, 2025.

The Fund was established to ensure the welfare of the children of victims of the August 6 helicopter crash.

According to a public update issued by the Presidency Communications Directorate, the donations for the Children Support Fund for the August 6 tragedy victims were made by both corporate institutions and individuals. The donors include NIB Ghana, Keda Ghana Ceramics Limited, Cynthia Naa Odotey, Nana Victoria Akyaa Afriyie-Abrokwa, Chase Group Foundation, Kay Simmon, MTN Ghana, Dela Radio, KGL Technology, Charles Incoom, and Ghana Commercial Bank.

The Presidency noted that contributions to the Children’s Support Fund for victims of the August 6 helicopter crash can still be made via Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited, with accounts available in both Ghana cedis and US dollars. Cheques, bank drafts, and mobile money transfers are also being accepted. Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund, emphasized that the initiative is crucial to safeguarding the future of the children left behind.

The Fund was launched in response to the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of senior government officials and military personnel. The contributions are expected to provide direct support for the dependents of the victims, ensuring their education and welfare are not compromised.

The crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region killed Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others, including three military crew members. The aircraft, a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter, was en route from Accra to Obuasi when it lost contact shortly after take-off under circumstances still under investigation.
