Cheques, bank drafts, and mobile money transfers are also being accepted. Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund, emphasized that the initiative is crucial to safeguarding the future of the children left behind.
The Fund was launched in response to the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of senior government officials and military personnel. The contributions are expected to provide direct support for the dependents of the victims, ensuring their education and welfare are not compromised.
The crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region killed Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, and six others, including three military crew members. The aircraft, a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter, was en route from Accra to Obuasi when it lost contact shortly after take-off under circumstances still under investigation.
