‘Democracy will continue to attack you’ – Franklin Cudjoe blasts NPP over planned protest

IMANI Africa Founding President Franklin Cudjoe has launched a blistering attack on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its planned August 6 demonstration, arguing that the party lacks the moral authority to champion democracy.

The opposition NPP is expected to embark on a nationwide protest on Thursday, August 6 under the theme “Democracy Under Attack,” which party leaders say is intended to draw attention to what they describe as threats to democratic governance and civil liberties.

However, reacting in a social media post, Mr. Cudjoe questioned the party’s choice of theme, accusing it of failing to speak out during its time in government when, according to him, thousands of Ghanaians were allegedly rendered stateless and many others endured economic hardship.

“What is the theme of the NPP’s planned protest again? ‘Democracy under attack’? I laugh enter Akple chop bars in SALL, places the rank and file of the NPP never lifted a finger to protest against its own devious and treacherous scheme to render up to 80,000 innocent Ghanaians stateless, hungry, wretched and poor for four whole years!”

He continued, “You committed the most egregious sin against democracy, and you haven’t even apologized! Democracy will continue to attack you until apologise! We have not even added the highway pickpocketing of savings and investments of millions just to save what was left of a junk-rated economy. Literally, your economic management team exploited representative democracy to dupe many lives, the sick, the old defenceless pensioner and students of their futures through wicked financial head cuts!”

Cudjoe also expressed frustration that media coverage of the planned demonstration would force him to postpone a scheduled national discussion on plastic waste.

His comments come ahead of the NPP’s planned August 6 demonstration, which the party says is aimed at highlighting what it considers growing concerns over the state of Ghana’s democracy.

Mr. Cudjoe’s remarks add to the growing public debate surrounding the protest, with supporters of the demonstration arguing it is necessary to defend democratic principles, while critics contend the party should first account for its own record while in government.
