Obuasi SHTS: Education Ministry condemns violent attack by students on headmaster

The Ministry of Education has condemned the violent incident at Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), describing the act as criminal and unacceptable.

This follows reports of a violent disturbance at the school that led to its indefinite closure after the headmaster was allegedly attacked by students over unverified claims linking him to the burial of a foetus.

The unrest resulted in damage to school property, while six students have since been arrested as police investigations continue.

In a statement signed by the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apak, on Wednesday, August 5, the Ministry said it “unequivocally condemns the violent incident at Obuasi Senior High Technical School.”

“The Ministry considers this act of violence and lawlessness as reprehensible and criminal. Such conduct has no place within Ghana’s educational institutions and will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”

The Ministry has directed the Ghana Education Service to immediately investigate the incident and apply the appropriate sanctions against those found responsible.

“The Honourable Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has directed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediately take up the matter, commence a full investigation into the disturbance, and apply the appropriate disciplinary sanctions against all persons found culpable, in accordance with the laws and regulations governing the education sector.”

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to discipline and safe learning environments across the country.
