A Call to Action: Addressing Reckless Behavior within the NPP: (THE CASE OF ABRONYE AND CHAIRMAN SMITH BUTEY)
The attitude displayed by Kwame Baffoe Abronye, a prominent member of Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), towards Dr. Richard Anane is reckless and irresponsible. Dr. Anane’s intention was to address Abronye’s reaction to former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s advice during an NPP meeting, not to provoke or insult him.
Abronye’s response, however, was uncalled for, as he resorted to personal attacks, labeling Dr. Anane a “fake doctor” and a “thief”. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and brings division within the party. It’s a clear sign of arrogance and doesn’t reflect the values of the NPP.
The NPP leadership, particularly Chairman Dankwa Smith Butey, should take note of this incident. Allowing such behavior to go unchecked sets a bad precedent and questions the leadership’s ability to manage the party. It’s surprising that Chairman Smith hasn’t taken any action against Abronye, and instead seems to be condoning his actions.
In Ghanaian culture, it’s unacceptable for a younger person to insult an elder, and the same applies to party members. Chairman Smith’s inaction raises concerns about his leadership capabilities and whether he has the party’s best interests at heart. A good leader would address such behavior and promote unity, not division.
The Asante Youth Association has rightly condemned Abronye’s behavior, and it’s time for the NPP leadership to take concrete action. The party’s reputation is at stake, and it’s essential to address this issue promptly.
The NPP is known for its commitment to democracy and respect for others. However, incidents like this undermine the party’s image and create divisions. It’s crucial for the leadership to address this issue and ensure that all members are held accountable for their actions.
Chairman Dankwa Smith Butey should demonstrate leadership and call Abronye to order, condemning his behavior and promoting unity within the party. The party’s future depends on its ability to address internal conflicts and present a united front.
We urge the NPP leadership to take immediate action and address this issue. The party’s reputation and future are at stake. We need leaders who will promote unity, respect, and accountability, not division and arrogance as exhibited by Chairman Dankwa Smith Butey.
Let’s work together to build a stronger NPP, one that is guided by the principles of respect, unity, and accountability.
