Abanga Fuseini Yakubu has been elected National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after winning the party’s national executive elections in Kumasi.
Mr Fuseini secured 1,550 votes in the election held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Saturday, October 3, 2026. He contested against five other aspirants in the race.
Clement Opoku Gyamfi emerged as his closest challenger with 631 votes, while Michael Osei Boateng polled 78 votes. Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei Asamoah received 46 votes, Vera Oye Bram-Larbi had 44 votes and Alfred Kumi Ababio obtained 25 votes.
The election formed part of the NPP’s national executive elections as the party begins preparations for the 2028 general elections.
Mr Fuseini’s victory followed a campaign that placed youth mobilisation at the centre of his message. He presented a plan focused on increasing the involvement of young people in the party and expanding its support among the youth.
A major target announced during his campaign was the mobilisation of four million youth votes for the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2028 general elections.
“A major target is to mobilise four million youth votes for the party’s flagbearer in 2028,” he said during his campaign.
He also called for greater attention to young people within the party, stressing the need to create opportunities that would encourage more youth to participate in political activities.
“The youth are the future of this party, and we must give them the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to its growth,” Mr Fuseini said.
The result marks the end of Salam Mustapha’s tenure as National Youth Organiser, with Mr Fuseini emerging as the new face of the party’s youth leadership.
Mr Fuseini has previously contested the National Youth Organiser position. In 2022, he campaigned on a message of empowering young members of the party and providing them with opportunities to become economically independent.
