Africa Centres of Excellence model should accelerate Africa’s economic transformation – Dr. Apaak

The Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has stated that the Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) model for higher education should accelerate Africa’s economic transformation.

Speaking at the closing session of the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) at Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, the deputy minister called on all policy makers, university leaders, and stakeholders of African Higher Education, to implement strategies and roadmaps identified during the conference to ensure the sustainability of this impressive model.

“The ACEs model should continue to remain at the forefront of research, innovation, and knowledge generation to accelerate Africa’s economic transformation. Ghana’s President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, captures our aspirations in his opening address as he stated, “the ACE journey reminds us that the future of higher education in Africa and globally lies in uniting our efforts to unlock talent, transfer knowledge and build a resilient, skilled workforce ready to drive sustainable development across the continent.

”Our ambition is further captured in the World Bank Vice President’s opening address, during which he indicated that the ACEs program has laid a foundation for a knowledge-driven economy powered by African talent, research, and solutions.

Ghana’s deputy minister for education further stated that all current and future ACE must continue in the next decade to unlock talent, transfer knowledge, and empower the African and global economy with African talent, research, knowledge transfer, and enterprise.

“In the spirit of collaboration and collective progress, I urge all of us to depart from this celebration of the last two days with a renewed commitment to engage with each other and to work towards the program’s financial and institutional sustainability”, Dr. Apaak stated.
