The African Electoral Institute (AEI) has reminded the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana to pay the Election Officials as soon as possible for the just-ended 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.
“AEI still demands that the EC must come out with a clear explanation and guidelines on how and when payments will be made.
“The Institute is still reminding the EC about their promise to Ghanaians to upgrade its system of payment so it can do prompt after-service payments using mobile payments this has not seen the light of day”, the Director of Communications and External Relations for AEI, Joshua Adjin-Tettey, disclosed in a statement.
He continued: “Thus, as AEI has recommended in the past, the EC must see the modernization of its methods for payments to election officials as an urgent matter. They can learn from the SSG in this regard.

PRESS RELEASE
TO: ALL MEDIA HOUSES
DATE: 26th MAY, 2025
AFRICAN ELECTORAL INSTITUTE WISHES TO ONCE AGAIN REMIND THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION OF ITS APPEAL TO THE COMMISSION TO HONOUR ITS PAYMENT OBLIGATION TO ALL ELECTION OFFICIALS FOR THE 2024 GENERAL ELECTIONS
After the African Electoral Institute (AEI) sent an appeal to the Electoral Commission (EC) through a press release to all media houses on 16th April, 2025, AEI is still gathering verified information that the EC Ghana has not paid any of its election officials who worked for it during the 2024 general elections.
The African Electoral Institute (AEI) as part of its advocacy for efficient electoral systems which are critical for free, fair and credible elections, wishes to once again send a gentle reminder and appeal once again to the Electoral Commission of Ghana to ensure that all electoral officers are paid.
With reference to the points raised in the previous press release, the institute finds it very unfortunate that officials are still without payment which may have an impact on the credibility of the Commission.
AEI calls on the media and all other like minded CSOs to join this advocacy to fight for the right of these election officials and to send another reminder to the Commissionin fulfilling its mandates and obligations to our dear officials who saw to it that the 2024 general election was free and fair. We still encourage the EC to make these payments a priority.
AEI still demands that the EC must comes out with clear explanation and guidelines to how and when payments will be made.
The Institute is still reminding the EC about their promise to Ghanaians to upgrade its system of payment so it can do prompt after service payments using mobile payments this has not seen the light of day. Thus as AEI has recommended in the past the EC must see the modernization of its methods for payments to election officials as an urgent matter. They can learn from the SSG in this regard.
In conclusion, the AEI wishes to alert Ghana again that the 2024 General Elections cannot be said to be completed when election officials remain unpaid. Ghana first, and at AEI, we still say Integrity of Choice.
