Airport renaming removes curse from facility – Osofo Kyiri Abosom

Founder of the Ghana Union Movement, Christian Kwabena Andrews, also known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, has welcomed the redesignation of Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport.

Popularly known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom, the cleric and politician described the decision as a positive national step with deep spiritual implications.

He argued that naming the airport after former Head of State Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka had brought setbacks to the country.

“I am so excited about the decision to change the name from Kotoka International Airport to Accra International Airport. It was a curse for us to name the airport after Kotoka. It was the reason why our young people who go through the airport face struggles and challenges,” he stated.

According to him, reverting to Accra International Airport restores the country’s spiritual balance and removes longstanding obstacles to progress. He claimed the previous name carried repercussions that stagnated Ghana’s growth.

He urged authorities to ensure that all official records and assets bearing the former name are amended without delay.

“I am excited. Every document and anything associated with the Kotoka name must be changed. But I would be more happy if we developed an airline, and during the official launch of the name change, we also launched the airline,” he added.

In a strong political pledge, Osofo Kyiri Abosom said he would withdraw from the 2028 presidential race and campaign for the National Democratic Congress if the current administration establishes a national carrier.

He made the remarks on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5 FM ahead of President John Dramani Mahama’s State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2026.

Touching on governance, the GUM leader identified youth unemployment as his primary concern. He proposed a large-scale, state-driven construction programme inspired by the historic Kwame Nkrumah Ideological Institute-era Nkrumah Brigade model to absorb jobless young people.

“My major concern is for the government to create more jobs. My suggestion is that just as we had the Nkrumah Brigade, the government can create a system where we invest in construction so it will create more opportunities for the youth of Ghana,” he said.

He also rated the government favourably, noting that President Mahama has performed well within a short period, and urged citizens to support the administration instead of engaging in what he described as unfair criticism.
