Akufo-Addo’s spokesperson lashes out at Franklin Cudjoe
Fatimatu Abubakar, spokesperson for former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has accused Franklin Cudjoe of IMANI Africa of abandoning neutrality for partisan attacks.
In a Facebook post titled “From Think Tank to Attack Tank – Franklin Cudjoe’s Tragic Descent,” the former Minister of Information rebuked Cudjoe for what she described as “vitriolic and unhinged” commentary against the former president after he met with New Patriotic Party presidential aspirants.
“It’s truly a spectacle to watch Franklin Cudjoe’s transformation in real time,” Abubakar wrote. “For years, he postured as a neutral, intellectual head of a think tank. That facade has now completely crumbled.”
Her statement followed Cudjoe’s social media post questioning why NPP presidential hopefuls would “take inspiration from failure” by meeting Akufo-Addo, whom he labelled as one of Ghana’s “most failed leaders.”
Abubakar dismissed the comments as politically motivated, arguing that Cudjoe had crossed from objective analysis into propaganda.
“How can a supporter of a man who was repeatedly rejected by the electorate in favour of Akufo-Addo now turn around and call that same leader a failure?” she asked. “This isn’t analysis. It’s pure, unadulterated hate and spite.”
She cited Akufo-Addo’s two electoral victories over President John Dramani Mahama as evidence of voter confidence in his leadership, stressing that Mahama’s return to office came only after Akufo-Addo completed his constitutionally limited second term.
Abubakar urged Cudjoe to focus his platform on holding the current administration accountable. “Use your platform to ask about the 24-hour economy, the fight against galamsey, insecurity, and jobs for the youth,” she wrote.
“Calling Akufo-Addo Ghana’s worst leader won’t make Mahama’s second term any better,” she added. “The mask is off. We see you.”
Franklin Cudjoe was one of the former president’s fiercest critics, particularly during his second term.
He laid into Mr. Akufo-Addo over his administration’s handling of the economy, corruption, and illegal mining.
