NPP primaries: Kennedy Agyapong pledges to stay focused like an eagle 

New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful, Kennedy Agyapong says he will remain focused and rise above personal attacks as he campaigns for the party’s flagbearer position.

Addressing supporters during a campaign stop in the Upper East Region, the Assin Central MP used a vivid metaphor to describe his approach to criticism and internal rivalry, saying he has chosen to act with restraint and maturity.

“Our elders say if you want to take on your battles, you resort to biting. Lately, they have been biting me,” he said in Twi. “But guess what I’ve become; I’ve become like an eagle that is frequently attacked by a raven.”

Mr Agyapong explained that instead of retaliating, he prefers to focus on his goals.

“The eagle could strike the raven with its seven-feet wing feathers. It doesn’t do that. However, it soars so high in the sky to an altitude where the attacking raven is unable to breathe, so it leaves the eagle and falls to the ground,” he said.

“I’m now like an eagle. I have decided not to listen to the insults, and I’m soaring high,” he added.

The outspoken legislator, known for his fiery campaign style, said his attention remains on policies that will transform Ghana and promote inclusive development.

“I assure you, I’ll be a fine president who will develop the north,” he declared, drawing cheers from supporters.

Mr Agyapong’s remarks come amid increasing tension within the NPP ahead of its presidential primary scheduled for January 2026.

In his quest to diffuse tensions, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo invited all five aspirants to his home to have a detente following episodes of heated jabs among them on the campaign trail.

The five aspirants are former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Yaw Osei Adutwum, Kwabena Agyei Agyepong and of course, Kennedy Agyapong.

Also in attendance were the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin and former Chief of Staff Frema Opare.

Party insiders say the contest is expected to be fiercely competitive as aspirants intensify grassroots mobilization across the country.

Mr Agyapong’s message is as an attempt to project composure and leadership strength while appealing to voters disillusioned by internal bickering.
