Ambassador Mona-Helen Kabuki Quartey presents credentials to President Mattarella

With a forward-looking perspective on the relations between Africa and Europe, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to Italy, Mrs. Mona-Helen Kabuki Quartey, presented her Letters of Credence to the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella, during the official ceremony held at the Quirinale on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

The meeting marks the formal beginning of the Ambassador’s diplomatic mission in Italy and opens a new phase in the consolidation of relations between Italy and Ghana, countries bound by long-standing ties characterized by dialogue, cooperation, and mutual respect. During the talks, held in a highly cordial atmosphere, the deep bonds of friendship between the two nations were reaffirmed, along with a shared commitment to further strengthening collaboration in the political, economic, cultural, and multilateral spheres.

Italy represents a strategic European partner for Ghana, while Accra continues to serve as a reliable and authoritative counterpart for Rome in West Africa—a region of crucial geopolitical importance and central to the sustainable development prospects of the African continent.

Particular attention was devoted to opportunities for expanding trade and investment, especially in the sectors of energy, agribusiness, infrastructure, education, and technological cooperation. Ghana, one of the most dynamic economies in Sub-Saharan Africa, looks with interest to Italian expertise in manufacturing, agri-food production, and small and medium-sized enterprises. The cultural and tourism dimension was equally emphasized. Italy recognizes Ghana as a growing market and a natural gateway to the wider West African region. The dialogue also highlighted a shared commitment to addressing the reset agenda for Ghana which has the infrastructure “Big Push” and the “24-hour Economy” as its flagship programs.

In the context of major global challenges, including international security, migration management, climate change, and the promotion of fair and sustainable development, Ghana and Italy reaffirm their support for effective multilateralism and for enhanced cooperation between the European Union and the African continent.

The presentation of credentials to the Italian Head of State therefore represents not merely a formal act, but a symbolic moment of renewed diplomatic momentum. It confirms the determination of both nations to intensify political dialogue and to translate their shared aspirations for inclusive development into concrete initiatives capable of generating opportunities for businesses, institutions, and citizens alike. With this institutional step, a new chapter in Ghana–Italy relations is officially opened—one founded on cooperation, mutual trust, and a shared vision, in the spirit of an ever-closer partnership between Europe and Africa.
