Apam man who defiled minor sentenced to 10 years
The Cape Coast Circuit Court Two has sentenced Samuel Armah, also known as Kofi Nyan, to 10 years imprisonment with hard labour for defilement.
According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, the case stemmed from an incident that occurred on October 16, 2025, in Apam.
The accused appeared before Circuit Court Two, presided over by Her Honour Nana Aba Quiba Nunoo, on October 28, 2025.
“The Circuit Court Two, Cape Coast, has sentenced the accused person, Samuel Armah, to ten years imprisonment in hard labour,” the statement read.
Police said Armah pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and was convicted on his own plea.
“The accused person pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement and he was convicted on his own plea and sentenced to serve ten years imprisonment in hard labour,” the statement added.
ASP Mr. Paul Bentum of the Public Affairs Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Central Region, confirmed that the convict has been transferred to the Ankaful Prison to begin serving his sentence.
He said, “He has since been sent to Ankaful Prison to begin his sentence.”
The Ghana Police Service reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice in cases of sexual violence, encouraging the public to report similar offences promptly for swift action.
The issue generated spirited discussions on social media with some calling for stringent punishment for the man’s action.
Following the verdict, many Ghanaians on social media have welcomed the ruling as being timely and deserving.
“The audacity he had to defile a minor as ‘punishment’ clearly says a lot about his being. Kindly give the needed help to the 13-year-old victim. Thank you, Ghana Police,” wrote on user on X.
“This is one fast food!” exclaimed another.
Other social users argued that the culprit deserved a more stringent punishment than what the court meted out.
“10 years? Why such a short time? Do they know the trauma that little girl is going to live with for the rest of her life? Monsters like this are supposed to rot in jail,” a user stated on X.
“As much as justice is served, 10 years is not enough for this heinous crime,” another wrote. “His sentence should be defilement and rape combined.”
