Asantehene announces death of Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has officially announced the death of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, during a meeting of the Asanteman Council at the Manhyia Palace. The gathering, attended by paramount chiefs and representatives from all clans, was held in accordance with traditional protocol for such significant announcements.
The one-week observance for the late Queen Mother has been scheduled for Thursday, August 21, 2025.
Nana Konadu Yiadom III, born Nana Ama Konadu, passed away at dawn on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the age of 98. She was the biological sister of the Asantehene and the 14th occupant of the revered Asantehemaa stool. She assumed the role in 2017, following the passing of her mother and predecessor, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II, in 2016. Her public unveiling as Queen Mother took place during the 67th birthday celebration of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Manhyia Palace.
Her reign was marked by deep loyalty to the Golden Stool, unwavering counsel to the Asantehene, and a steadfast commitment to preserving Asante culture and tradition. Palace sources say she played an instrumental role in maintaining unity within the royal family and providing guidance to the broader Asanteman, ensuring the continuation of cherished customs.
The Oyoko Royal Family formally conveyed the news of her passing to the Asantehene at an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council on Monday. Although details surrounding her death remain limited, family sources confirm it occurred peacefully.
In line with tradition, the Manhyia Palace will formally communicate funeral arrangements to the public after all customary rites have been observed.
