Asogli Te Zã Durbar: Julius Debrah calls for unity to drive Ghana’s development

Chief of Staff Dr. Julius Debrah has called for greater unity and collective responsibility among government, traditional authorities, businesses and citizens to accelerate sustainable national development.
Representing President John Dramani Mahama at the 2026 Asogli Te Zã Grand Durbar at Jubilee Park in Ho on Saturday, October 3, Dr. Debrah said the theme of this year’s celebration underscored the importance of collective action in achieving meaningful development.
The celebration was held under the theme, “United in Purpose, Investing in People and Infrastructure for Sustainable National Development.”
Drawing on the symbolism of the yam, which is central to the Te Zã celebration, Dr Debrah said development, like farming, requires different elements to work together towards a common goal.
“A yam mound yields because soil, seed, rain and labour come together in common purpose. Development works the same way,” he said.
He urged stakeholders to place equal emphasis on investing in people and infrastructure while creating opportunities for the younger generation.
“As we celebrate, let us remember the farmer who made this feast possible, the young people who must inherit our culture and economy, and those who preserved this identity through migration, hardship and change,” he stated.
Dr. Debrah also commended the Asogli traditional leadership for using culture to promote unity, enterprise and development.
He particularly praised Togbe Afede XIV, Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, for demonstrating that traditional leadership can embrace progressive ideas.
“Under your leadership, culture has become a platform for unity, enterprise and development. Your thoughtful, independent voice remains committed to the progress of your people. Togbe, we honour and thank you,” Dr. Debrah said.
The Chief of Staff encouraged the people of Asogli to preserve their cultural heritage while working towards a stronger economic future.
“Let us pass that inheritance on stronger, richer and more united,” he added.
He further expressed hope that the next edition of Te Zã would provide an opportunity to reflect on concrete gains in agriculture, youth development, business expansion, infrastructure and investment.
“When we gather for the next Te Zã, may we count a wider harvest: farms made more productive, young people trained, businesses expanded, roads improved, investments begun and families given fresh hope,” Dr Debrah said.
Te Zã is an annual Asogli celebration centred on thanksgiving, cultural expression, homecoming and the renewal of communal bonds.
The 2026 Grand Durbar was held at Jubilee Park in Ho on Saturday, October 3, with Dr. Julius Debrah representing President John Dramani Mahama as Special Guest of Honour.
